Company Profile

In the mid sixties the Berger Paint Group developed a Chlorinated Rubber based road marking paint. They branded it Cataphos and set up a company called Berger Traffic Markings Ltd to promote it. For some years Berger Traffic Markings (BTM) was in fact one salesman working from Bergers Head Office in London. The market, however, was relatively limited with the majority of roadmarking done, as now, with hot applied thermoplastic. Berger therefore decided that if the company was to generate acceptable levels of profit it needed to expand.

Over the next few years the company diversified into other traffic safety products such as Verge Posts and in the early 1970s moved to the South West. During the 1970s and 1980s BTM spearheaded innovation in the industry in the UK, introducing cones, alternative road studs and temporary road studs. In 1988 the Berger Paint Group was briefly sold to Williams Holdings who promptly sold BTM to Prismo. In 1992 Shell who owned Prismo decided that white lining was not a core business. It put together a group of companies in UK, France, Holland and Belgium involved in roadmarking and two UK building product companies. In February 1993 Streamline Holdings which included Prismo was formed.

In the early 1990s BTM had developed their product range to include Flexitec, a traffic calming modular system, traffic management products, including Temporary Tape and the Contramark 2000 Temporary Stud, Easymark, the aerosol marking system, and traffic marking products including Cataphos Traffic Paint. BTM have now changed their name to Prismo Traffic Products, and are now based just outside of Bath and continue to strive as the market leaders in innovation and quality of traffic safety products.
